JOB TITLE: Operations Manager / BOAT MASTER of Disability Vessel REF: LRAFA2 BMA 2022
REPORTS TO: Lough Ree Access For All CLG Board of Members / Directors / Trustees
Responsible for: Management of LRAFA Access Boats and all associated staff
JOB OVERVIEW:
To lead and manage the safe day to day operations of Lough Ree Access For All CLG (LRAFA) as a CSP Project focussed on the provision of wheelchair accessible boat safaris and other boat fishing trips for people living with physical and intellectual disability and all passengers who wish to travel.
To implement the stated aims, objectives and policies of LRAFA.
To oversee and implement all appropriate statutory health and safety legislation
To assist the CLG Business Development Manager and advise the Trustees in the preparation of strategies for long-term development of LRAFA.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- •To implement all strategies, plans and procedures for LRAFA in both the area of disability services and general tourism services
- •To set goals for performance and growth
- •To establish policies that promote LRAFA core ethos, health & safety compliance and vision
- •To supervise and implement all statutory policy on health and safety on and off the water
- •To promote a positive working environment where the primary focus of our day to day activities is at all times centred on the safety, care and wellbeing of our passengers
- •To oversee the day to day operations of LRAFA including management of staff – Boat Crews, IT, Marketing, Reception/Sales, Finance
- •To identify specific training needs for paid staff and volunteers and to work in collaboration with the Training Committee to develop appropriate training programmes / opportunities.
- •To report to LRAFA Board of Trustees in all matters of importance
- •To assist with preparation of annual budgets, quarterly revised budgets, quarterly cash flow
- •To work closely with the Company secretary on marketing and promotion initiatives
- •To ensure LRAFA operates within the law and ensure all the company’s operational activities, procedures and work practices are compliant and meet regulatory requirements
- •To oversee and manage COVID Safe work practices both in terms of day-to-day staff interactions and all work place and on board vessel activities and duties.
- •To oversee recorded entries for each sailing day – including incidents and equipment failures/malfunctions in relevant logbook: Boat Voyage Log, Engine Maintenance Log, Equipment Inspection and Service Log
- •Skipper-in-charge operating wheelchair accessible boat on a rota basis to facilitate performance of other duties
- •To represent and promote the services of LRAFA at conferences, trade workshops, digital platforms, broadcast and print media.
- •To maintain a pledge of confidentiality regarding information held in connection with the business affairs of LRAFA
- •To implement internal communications systems for regular reporting and problem solving
- •To ensure all staff and volunteers work according to job descriptions and LRAFA policy
- •To manage staff rotas for continuous cover during 7 day schedule and/or all hours when service is in required
- •To authorise staff holidays rota
- •To assist the Board with drawing up staff contracts and to ensure personnel records are kept secure and private
- •To conduct staff reviews/appraisals
- •To ensure the working environment both at the LRAFA Centre and on board the passenger vessel is kept clean, tidy and safe for staff and visitors and that staff and visitors are aware of emergency procedures
- •To ensure that adequate insurance policies are in operation for all staff, buildings, contents, boat, trailer, tow vehicle, equipment and public users of the facilities
- •To hold weekly Staff Meetings and to ensure minutes are taken and actions carried out
- •To monitor, implement and liaise with Pobal regarding all aspects of the Community Services Programme
- •To ensure that LRAFA manages its business affairs and activities professionally and operates lawfully.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- •Must hold a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a management role with a background in tourism or social enterprise
- •Experience of working with people with disabilities essential
- •Must hold a valid P2 Passenger Boat Proficiency Skipper’s License with Category A Commercial Endorsement or equivalent
- •Must be certified Short Range GMDSS Radio Operator.
- •Must hold a clean driving license with Category W (tractor)
- •An academic qualification in Tourism Management Development or similar would be an advantage
- •Inclusive Adventure Activities Training experience would be an advantage
- •Safeguarding qualification would be an advantage
- •Experience in angling and angling tourism would be an advantage
Relevant Additional Information:
- •LRAFA is a community-based, social enterprise established for the provision of wheelchair accessible boat safaris and boat angling trips for people with physical and/or intellectual disability, you will be required to participate in training programmes from time to time to enhance your understanding and develop your skills when assisting people with disability. Flexibility would be an advantage to work evenings, weekends & bank holidays as available or required to meet service demand in accordance with appropriate procedures.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- SALARY: CSP rate of 32,000 Euro per annum will apply. This salary level is fixed for 2 year period
- WORKING HOURS: 39 hours per week as per disability vessel service demands.
- Initial employment contract to December 31st, 2022 in accordance with CSP Pobail Contract to LRAFA CLG – which may be extended.
